“How do you define HOME?” is the theme for the 2020 outreach program. The following project outlines happened, amid a COVID pandemic, in creative ways without much face to face interaction. Awareness was a key component of this year’s outreach for the two congregations.
The month of learning about the House that offers support to families of hospitalized children was capped off with a Birthday Party; and generous collection of items from the Family Room Wish List. The items stock the Family Rooms located in Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario as well as the House in London.
Our awareness of the challenges of displaced persons was raised through the House Hunting exercise. Donations from this project assisted 467 refugees with the purchase of bed nets and refugee shelters.
With the arrival of COVID we sailed aboard the S.S. Noah, virtually exploring a daily Creature Feature. Monies from this project were forwarded to the World Wildlife Fund in support of creature home environments.
COVID revealed the support needed for seniors. In our virtual “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” adventure, we learned of organizations/pioneers in the field of health /science that champion care and inventions that impact the lives of our elders. Donations to 9 organizations, including hospice, long term care, hospitals, and community support agencies honoured our seniors.
With our virtual exploration of “Children Just like Me” we celebrated the similarities of children around the world, while appreciating the differences. Donations from this project were forwarded to assist with the operating coast of Camp Kenesserie.
Join us as we virtually visit the Hospice through our Hospice Moments! You will hear from some familiar names, people from our own faith community who also volunteer or work at the Hospice. We will separate the myths from the facts and we will learn how our gifts of time and money impact the lives of so many in our community.
December project, more information coming soon.
